ACADEMIC TUTORINGAcademic tutoring is growing rapidly at Ames Seminars as people hear about our philosophy, experience great results, and tell their friends. Our goal is to help students get good grades and, most importantly, learn the material. At Ames, students ALWAYS have the same tutor: NEVER does a student walk in and find a different tutor. Having the same tutor ensures that there is a relationship, an understanding and a personal commitment between students and tutors. Our tutors are smart, experienced and compassionate. Students consistently report that they are impressed with how much their tutors know and how clear they explain the concepts and material. Tutoring is available at Ames Seminars in Lafayette after school and on weekends. Master Tutors -- Our expert educators with advanced degrees.
Fee: $80/hr - $70 when you purchase a block of 5 hrs. Standard Tutors -- College grads; perfect for homework help.
Fee: $50/hr - $40 when you purchase a block of 5 hrs.
Summer Academic Prep Courses Reading and WritingWriter's Workshop (rising 7th and 8th graders)
Express yourself! This intensive course will help you learn how to plan, structure, write, and edit superior essays.
Includes 1 hour tutoring session: Get help structuring and revising any writing assignment. Ames Seminars Classroom

Reading to Learn. The ability to learn from reading is the foundation of academic success. In this class, you will develop excellent critical reading skills for both literature and non-fiction texts.

To be announced in the Spring Essay Writing Seminar (rising 9th and 12th graders)
The ability to write clear, organized essays is a critical skill for success in both high school and college. In our small class you will write often and receive rapid feedback. This intensive course will help you learn how to plan, structure, write, and edit superior essays.

To be announced in the Spring Grammar Seminar (rising 9th to 12th graders)
I or me? That or which? Less or few? If you've ever wondered which word to use, our Grammar seminar will teach you the rules that govern such choices. While many students have learned to hate grammar- or not learned it at all- when it's taught well, grammar can be fun, easy, and even interesting. Come learn the rules that will make you a better writer. Once you learn the rules, they will be yours forever and you will use them every day of your life. Even strong readers struggle with complex literature or dense academic writing, but the skills and confidence to tackle the toughest texts are a necessity for college-bound students. If you have ever found yourself at the end of a long and difficult page of text with little or no idea what you have just read, this is the course for you.

MathStrong Start Seminars
This intensive series of math courses is designed to help students of all levels strengthen core concepts and skills from previous math classes and preview the content for the upcoming year’s course. Instructors will continually assess your knowledge to make sure that you receive the proper mix of reinforcement, skill-building and enrichment.
Includes 1 hour tutoring session: Receive support on fall math homework, projects or tests Pre-Algebra Review: operations of rational numbers, probability, ration and proportions, geometric shapes, and simple equations Preview/Learn: exponents, Pythagorean Theorem, volume and surface area, multi-step algebraic equations, graphing linear functions, slope Ames Seminars Classroom
